SHURE SM81-LC Small-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphone
The Shure SM81 is one of the world's most respected small-diaphragm cardioid condenser instrument microphones, a studio and stage workhorse trusted for acoustic guitar, drum overheads, piano, cymbals, choir, and orchestral instrument recording since its introduction in the 1970s. Its ruler-flat frequency response and uniformly cardioid polar pattern deliver natural, accurate reproduction of acoustic instruments across an extended frequency range, while its high SPL handling up to 146 dB (with -10 dB pad engaged), low noise, and rugged steel construction make it equally capable in the studio and in demanding live environments. Phantom power is required.
Key Features
- Flat frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz for accurate, natural reproduction of acoustic instruments and sound sources.
- Uniformly cardioid polar pattern that is consistent across the full frequency range, providing maximum rejection and minimum coloration of off-axis sounds.
- Selectable low-frequency response: flat, 6 dB/octave, or 18 dB/octave roll-off for versatile application to a wide range of sources.
- Lockable -10 dB attenuator switch for high SPL applications, with SPL handling up to 146 dB with pad engaged.
- Low self-noise and high output clipping level for a wide dynamic range.
- Rugged vinyl-coated steel construction for reliable performance in studio and live environments across a wide range of temperatures and humidity conditions.
