Choose a rack case by height and usable depth

The 19-inch format identifies the rack-mounting standard; case capacity is expressed in U. This collection includes Showgear 2U, 4U, 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 16U cases with front and rear lids. Consider both the equipment you plan to install and the access it needs at the back.

Work out the required rack height

Add together the rack height of the devices you will mount. Include any planned gaps, rack accessories or space for future equipment. A larger case gives you more mounting room but takes up more vehicle space and adds weight. Choose around the equipment set you need to carry.

Leave room for connectors and cables

A device may fit by cabinet depth yet still need clearance for power and signal connectors and cable bends. External case measurements do not establish usable mounting depth. Compare the device dimensions and installation requirements with the internal space of the individual case before ordering.

Front and rear lids

The lids close the case for transport. Check whether your connector and cable arrangement leaves enough room for them to close. During use, you need access to controls and rear connections. Plan ventilation around the mounted devices’ requirements; a closed transport case is not automatically suitable for operating the equipment inside.

Account for weight and mounting requirements

Calculate the total weight of the empty case, installed equipment and any accessories left inside. Check the mounting instructions for heavier or deeper devices, including any required support. Use external dimensions to confirm that the case will fit your vehicle.
