The sE Electronics sE8 is a small-diaphragm cardioid true-condenser microphone for recording or reinforcing instruments, choirs and ensembles. The manufacturer recommends it for acoustic guitar, piano, strings, woodwinds, drums, percussion, cymbals and drum overheads.

Its hand-built and individually tuned 1/2-inch capsule uses a 3-micrometre gold-sputtered diaphragm. The cardioid polar pattern concentrates pickup at the front and reduces sound arriving from behind, allowing the microphone to be aimed precisely at the selected source. Transformerless Class A circuitry is designed for wide dynamic range and fast transient response.

The two-stage pad provides -10 dB and -20 dB settings, allowing close placement on loud brass, snare drum and other high-SPL sources. The 80 Hz and 160 Hz low-cut settings reduce floor vibration, rumble or excessive proximity-effect bass. An all-metal housing and gold-plated XLR connector are suited to studio and stage use. The microphone requires 48 V phantom power.

Who Is It For

The sE8 suits detailed capture of acoustic instruments, drums, cymbals, choirs and ensembles in the studio or on stage.
