The sE Electronics sE7 is a small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone for recording or reinforcing instruments, choirs and ensembles. The manufacturer recommends it for acoustic guitar, piano, strings, woodwinds, drums, percussion, cymbals and drum overheads.

Its 1/2-inch back-electret capsule uses a thin diaphragm to capture fast changes in the source. The cardioid polar pattern concentrates pickup at the front and reduces sound arriving from behind, allowing the microphone to be aimed at a selected instrument. Discrete Class A circuitry and a transformerless output provide a short signal path.

A switchable -20 dB pad allows close placement on loud brass or snare drum and raises maximum sound-pressure handling to 156 dB SPL. The 80 Hz low-cut filter reduces floor vibration, rumble and excessive proximity-effect bass. An all-metal housing and gold-plated XLR connector are suited to studio and stage use. The microphone requires 48 V phantom power.

Who Is It For
