Description
sE Electronics RNT Rupert Neve Signature
The sE Electronics RNT is a flagship large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone developed in collaboration with Rupert Neve Designs. At its core is a hand-crafted, gold-sputtered 1" true condenser capsule with a refined electrode design, individually tuned in sE's factory. The microphone employs a high-voltage tube circuit with a hand-selected 12AU7/ECC82 valve optimised for driving a custom first-stage transformer housed within the mic body, followed by a fully discrete Class-A output stage in the floor box using the same custom op-amp cards found in Rupert Neve Designs' flagship 5088 mixing console.
The RNT's remote control unit (floor box) provides a 9-position polar pattern switch with graded steps between omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-8, along with a three-position gain control offering -12, 0, or +12 dB. This gain stage extends the microphone's usable dynamic range across a wide range of sources, from delicate ambience recordings to close-miking of loud instruments. A second custom output transformer in the floor box provides isolation and contributes the characteristic sonic quality associated with Rupert Neve designs.
Key Features
- Hand-crafted gold-sputtered capsule: 1" true condenser capsule with a refined electrode design, individually tuned in sE's factory for natural sound reproduction.
- Hand-selected 12AU7/ECC82 tube: Each tube is carefully selected and pre-tested in-house. The unique high-voltage tube circuit is optimised for driving the first custom-made transformer within the mic body.
- Discrete Class-A electronics: Both active stages use fully discrete, Class-A circuitry. The floor box employs the same custom Rupert Neve Designs op-amp cards as the flagship 5088 console, delivering enormous headroom, ultra-wide bandwidth, and zero crossover distortion.
- Two custom transformers: A first transformer is housed inside the microphone body, with a second output transformer in the floor box providing Rupert Neve's characteristic sonic signature and bulletproof isolation.
- 9-position polar pattern switch: Graded steps through omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-8, allowing precise balance between direct sound and ambience pickup.
- Switchable gain control: Three-position gain switch (-12 / 0 / +12 dB) provides 24 dB of extended dynamic range without compromising signal integrity.
- Dual low-cut filters: Switchable 40 Hz and 80 Hz high-pass filters at 12 dB/Oct to manage low-frequency rumble and proximity effect.
- Gold-plated XLR connector: All-metal mic body with a gold-plated XLR connector for efficient rejection of electrical interference.

Who Is It For?
- Lead vocal recording: The RNT's tube circuit and custom transformer chain deliver depth and character suited to demanding vocal sessions where the microphone must capture nuance and sit naturally in a dense mix.
- Acoustic instruments: Recommended by sE for acoustic guitar, piano, orchestral strings, and woodwinds, where the gold-sputtered capsule's natural frequency response and the tube-transformer signal path provide definition without harshness.
- Drum overhead and room miking: The nine graded polar patterns allow precise control over room pickup, and the switchable gain accommodates both ambient room capture and close-miking of loud percussion at up to 151 dBSPL.
- Professional studios requiring reference-grade electronics: Both active stages use the same discrete Class-A op-amp topology as Rupert Neve Designs' 5088 console, making the RNT a technically consistent extension of that signal chain.
