The sE Electronics DM3 is a compact active DI that converts a 1/4-inch instrument signal to a balanced microphone-level XLR output. Its 10-megohm Ultra-HiZ input is intended for electric and bass guitars, piezo pickups, keyboards, synthesizers, drum machines and laptop outputs.

The input jack has a locking mechanism that can be disengaged when locking is not required. The 0, -15 and -30 dB pad positions accommodate normal instrument signals and much hotter sources. A three-position ground-lift switch provides Off, On and On+ modes; On+ is designed to address hiss and radio-frequency interference as well as ground-loop hum.

The DM3 receives 48 V phantom power from an XLR input on a mixer, interface or stagebox. Its male XLR connector plugs directly into that input, so no additional XLR lead is needed between the DM3 and the destination. It is not a loudspeaker power attenuator; consult the manufacturer’s connection guidance before using any unusual high-level source.
