Samson MD1 Pro is a single-channel passive direct box that converts an unbalanced instrument, line-level, or correctly attenuated speaker-level signal to a balanced low-impedance output. It provides a direct connection from a guitar, bass, keyboard, or other source to a microphone input on a mixing console or audio interface.

The 1/4-inch TS Input accepts the source, while a parallel Thru jack can feed the same signal to a stage amplifier or monitor. The balanced XLR output is intended for the longer cable route to the console, where a low-impedance balanced connection is less susceptible to interference than an unbalanced line.

An STLX transformer with Faraday and Mu-Metal shielding provides galvanic isolation. Ground Lift disconnects XLR pin 1 when a ground loop introduces hum. The three-position pad selects 0, -15, or -30 dB, allowing the input to accommodate instrument, line, and higher-level amplifier signals.

A speaker output may be connected only after the pad has been set to -30 dB. Samson specifies an input capability of up to 40 V in this mode, and the amplifier, loudspeaker, and DI wiring instructions must be followed. The passive MD1 Pro does not boost the signal and requires no battery or phantom power.
