Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 with Tone Wicker Fuzz Pedal
The Big Muff Pi 2 with Tone Wicker is an analog fuzz pedal built around the dual op-amp Big Muff 2 circuit, a design originally developed in the 1970s and later brought back in collaboration with Josh Scott of JHS Pedals. Alongside the standard VOL, TONE, and SUSTAIN controls, the pedal adds two switches that significantly expand the tonal range of the base circuit: a TONE bypass switch and a 3-position WICKER switch.
The TONE switch removes the tone stack from the circuit entirely, producing a full-spectrum, unfiltered fuzz with no frequency shaping. The WICKER switch opens high-frequency filters at two levels (HALF and FULL), adding extended top-end clarity at any TONE knob position, which is most effective at lower TONE settings where the base circuit would otherwise roll off the highs. Buffered bypass is implemented via a soft footswitch with both latching and momentary action.
Key Features
- Dual op-amp Big Muff 2 circuit: analog fuzz based on the long-lost 1970s op-amp design, delivering a distinct midrange character and sustained gain separate from the classic transistor-based Big Muff Pi.
- TONE bypass switch: 2-position toggle. In the ON position the TONE knob operates normally. In the OFF position the entire tone stack is removed from the signal path, producing a full-spectrum, unfiltered fuzz across the complete frequency range.
- 3-position WICKER switch: OFF gives the standard Big Muff Pi 2 response. HALF adds a moderate boost to the high-frequency range. FULL opens the high-frequency bandwidth fully for a bright and clear top end. Most effective at lower TONE knob settings.
- Buffered bypass with latching/momentary action: tap the soft footswitch for standard latching on/off; press and hold for a momentary burst of fuzz that disengages on release.
- Battery powered: runs on a standard 9V battery (included); optional 9VDC center-negative power adapter connects via the rear power jack. Do not exceed 12VDC.

Who Is It For?
- Guitarists seeking tonal flexibility from a fuzz pedal: the TONE bypass and WICKER switch add two independent axes of tonal control, allowing the base Big Muff Pi 2 circuit to cover significantly more ground than a standard three-knob fuzz.
- Players who want a bright fuzz without thin tone: the WICKER switch adds high-frequency content without removing the midrange weight of the op-amp circuit, making it useful for single-coil players or anyone cutting through a dense mix.
- Studio and live guitarists exploring fuzz textures: the combination of TONE bypass and WICKER positions provides a range of fuzz voicings from warm and filtered to full-bandwidth and open, without additional pedals.
