The Electro-Harmonix Bass Preacher is an effective dynamics control tool, designed by bassists for bassists. This pedal allows you to "smooth out" your playing, increase note sustain, and even out the volume between different strings or playing techniques. It features a wide input sensitivity range, making it perfectly compatible with both passive and powerful active bass guitar pickups.

Despite its simple controls, the pedal is very flexible. The Sustain knob controls the compression level, while the Volume knob controls the output volume (make-up gain), allowing you to compensate for the level lost during compression. The main tone-shaping tool is the three-position Attack switch, which changes the compressor's reaction speed: "Fast" (cuts the attack sharply, providing a smooth sound), "Med" (versatile), and "Slow" (allows the initial note attack to pass through, providing more "kicks" and percussiveness).
