Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff Pi 2 Bass Fuzz Pedal
The Bass Big Muff Pi 2 is an analog fuzz pedal built around the dual op-amp Big Muff 2 circuit, a design originally developed in the 1970s and later resurrected in collaboration with Josh Scott of JHS Pedals. This bass-optimised version retains the signature midrange grind and virtually endless sustain of the Big Muff 2 circuit while adding a BLEND knob and BASS BOOST switch, allowing bass players to shape the fuzz tone without losing low-end clarity or foundational weight.
The BLEND knob mixes the dry and distorted signals continuously from 100% clean to 100% fuzz, preserving the fundamental note even at high sustain settings. The BASS BOOST switch adds extra low-end to the distorted signal and is most effective at higher TONE knob settings. True bypass switching with both latching and momentary footswitch action is implemented via a mechanical relay on a soft footswitch. A 9V battery is included; an optional external power adapter connects via the 9VDC power jack.
Key Features
- Dual op-amp Big Muff 2 circuit: analog fuzz based on the long-lost 1970s op-amp design, delivering a distinct midrange grind and sustain character separate from the classic transistor-based Big Muff Pi.
- BLEND knob: continuously mixes the dry and distorted signals from 100% clean (fully counterclockwise) to 100% fuzz (fully clockwise), with a 50/50 mix at noon. Preserves the clean low-end fundamental at any fuzz setting.
- BASS BOOST switch: 2-position toggle adds extra low-end to the fuzz signal. Most effective when the TONE knob is set toward the treble end of its range.
- True bypass with mechanical relay: soft footswitch engages a mechanical relay for true bypass, ensuring a clean, loss-free signal path when the effect is off.
- Latching/Momentary footswitch action: tap for standard latching on/off; press and hold for a momentary burst of fuzz that disengages on release.
- Battery powered: runs on a standard 9V battery (included); optional 9VDC, center-negative power adapter connects via the rear power jack.

Who Is It For?
- Bass guitarists seeking fuzz without low-end loss: the BLEND knob allows the clean signal to run in parallel with the fuzz at any ratio, keeping the fundamental bass tone intact at any gain setting.
- Players who want a straightforward fuzz pedal: five controls (VOL, TONE, SUSTAIN, BLEND, BASS BOOST) cover the full range of usable tones without additional routing complexity or menu navigation.
- Live performers: the soft footswitch with mechanical true bypass and momentary action make the pedal practical for live use, with no signal loss or tonal coloration when bypassed.
