Reconstruction of Klaipėda Drama Theatre Stage Technologies
The reconstruction of Klaipėda Drama Theatre was one of the most ambitious stage technology projects in Lithuania. The Stage IQ team implemented a full technological cycle here: from design and equipment selection to system integration, installation, and commissioning.
Project Aim and Objectives
The theatre aimed not only to renovate its infrastructure but also to create a stage space that meets modern standards, ready for both classical performances and contemporary forms. Therefore, a comprehensive solution was sought, encompassing lighting, sound systems, stage mechanics, and spatial transformation capabilities.
Our task was to design and install technologies that allow the theatre to flexibly respond to different repertoire needs, while ensuring reliable daily operation and clear control logic for the theatre's technical team.
Transformable Main Hall and 15-Segment Stage
The main hall became a pivotal element in this project. The stage area is divided into 15 independent segments, controlled by spiral lifts. Each segment can be raised above the stage or lowered below its level, allowing the stage to quickly adapt to various scenography solutions.
Spiral lifts were chosen for their compactness and greater lifting amplitude compared to hydraulic systems. They control not only the stage but also the auditorium floor segments. Parterre chairs can be arranged in an amphitheater style, at a flat level, or completely hidden in the structure, and with the stage and hall at the same height, a continuous flat space can be formed.
All configuration is automated. With a single press of a button, the main hall can be transformed from an empty space into an amphitheater with luxurious chairs or into any other required configuration in a matter of minutes.

Overhead Mechanization and Scenery Control
For the overhead stage mechanization system, 40 steel cable hoists were installed. These are controlled by an intelligent control system, allowing the creation and saving of different scenery layout scenarios.
Each hoist can be programmed individually or in groups. This allows stage staff to synchronously raise and lower battens, control scenery, lighting structures, and other suspended elements. This not only speeds up preparation for performances but also increases the safety and precision of stage work.
Lighting System and 400 Lighting Lines
The lighting project for Klaipėda Drama Theatre required an extremely precise approach to the placement of light points. When designing the stage and hall lighting, different performance aesthetics, directorial intentions, and technical conditions were taken into account.
The theatre is equipped with 400 lighting lines, forming a dense and flexible lighting network. This solution allows lighting designers to precisely control stage areas, create subtle light transitions and complex compositions, and provides the technical team with a wide range of tools for each performance.
Electroacoustic Sound System Unparalleled in Lithuania
The electroacoustic sound system installed in Klaipėda Drama Theatre is one of the most advanced solutions in Lithuania. The system was designed specifically for this space, taking into account the hall's acoustics, audience flow, and different sound modes for performances.
Precisely selected and calibrated equipment ensures clear dialogue intelligibility, uniform sound distribution throughout the hall, and a wide dynamic range. The system is also adapted for various formats, from chamber plays to larger-scale musical projects.
Design, Installation, and Integration
The Stage IQ team performed all key technological stages in the Klaipėda Drama Theatre project:
- design of lighting, sound, and stage mechanics
- equipment specification and supply
- coordination of logistics and installation works
- system installation, tuning, and testing
- programming and configuration of control systems
- training of theatre technical personnel
The project was implemented in close cooperation with architects, contractors, and theatre representatives. This team approach allowed for the harmonization of aesthetic, functional, and technical requirements, maintaining clear integration of all stage technologies.

Result and Value for the Theatre
The reconstructed Klaipėda Drama Theatre is today one of the most modern theatre buildings in Lithuania. The transformable stage, advanced overhead mechanization system, expanded lighting network, and electroacoustic sound system create a technical base that meets the high demands of contemporary theatre.
These technologies provide great freedom for the theatre's creative team, and reliable and clearly controllable tools for the technical department's daily work. The project has become a prime example of how integrated stage technologies can open up a new level of technical execution in theatre art.
